Sunland Park will contest four American Quarter Horse stakes on Sunday, including three that were postponed from December 27.

D E Wagons Strawfly, a 7-year-old Genuine Strawfly gelding owned and trained by Tony Sedillo, will tote the 128-pound top weight for Sunday’s 870-yard, $85,000 Challenger Six Handicap (R) for New Mexico-breds at Sunland Park.

The Challenger Six is one of four American Quarter Horse stakes scheduled for Sunday at Sunland Park. The others -- the 400-yard, $350,000 Championship at Sunland Park (G1); the 400-yard, $250,000 Sunland Juvenile Championship; and the 400-yard, $85,000 Lou Wooten/Sydney Valentini Handicap (RG1) for state-bred distaffers -- were postponed and rescheduled from December 27, when inclement weather forced the track to cancel its scheduled nine-race card.

D E Wagons Strawfly will be making his first start since November 1, when he scored a two-length victory in the $140,000 New Mexico Cup 870 Championship (R) at Zia Park. The gelding ended his 2015 campaign with earnings of $123,350 from just three outs.

D E Wagons Strawfly drew post 4 and will be ridden by Jose Enrique Ortiz.

Other contenders include Victor Diaz’s Coronas Boy, a 7-year-old son of the Dash For Cash stallion Mr Houston who has been assigned by racing secretary Robert Junk to carry 126 pounds. Trained by H.G. “Poppy” Aldavaz, the gelding has won seven of 30 starts, including three stakes, and he is coming off of a third-place finish, 3 3/4 lengths behind D E Wagons Strawfly, in the New Mexico Cup 870 Championship.

Adrian Ramos will ride Coronas Boy from the rail post in the Challenger Six.

Aldavaz will also send out Super Quintons, the runner-up in the New Mexico Cup 870 Championship, for owner Armando Aldavaz. A 7-year-old Quinton’s Gold (TB) gelding Super Quintons drew post 2 and will be ridden by Hector Aldrete.
