Good Captain Pepper and Desdemona Rambler are among the 89 2-year-olds entered in Friday’s 350-yard TQHA Sale Futurity (RG2) trials at Retama Park.
Good Captain Pepper is a bay son of Captain Courage trained by Eddie D. Willis for owner Carlos S. Lozano. The gelding has earned $90,000 from four outs, all at Remington Park, and his three wins include a neck victory in the 350-yard, $100,000 Heritage Place Juvenile Invitational Stakes on June 4.
Jimmy Dean Brooks will ride Good Captain Pepper from the rail post in the fourth of nine trials.
Desdemona Rambler will be making his first start since April 23, when he ran third, a half of a length behind winner Just Call Me Carter, in the 330-yard, $540,000 Sam Houston Futurity (G2) at Sam Houston Race Park. The homebred Tempting Dash colt is trained by Brian Stroud for owner Dan Grube.
Desdemona Rambler drew post 5 and will be ridden by Claudio Aguilar in the second heat.
Valid Expectations will be ridden by Donald Watson from post 7 in the sixth trial. A homebred daughter of Jet Black Patriot racing for Mercy Hinklin’s Horse Farm LLC from the barn of Kenneth Roberts Sr., the filly will be making her first start since March 23, when she finished second, a half of a length behind winner Duponte, in the $268,000 Harrah’s Entertainment Futurity (G3) at Louisiana Downs.
The 10 fastest qualifiers will meet in the $100,000-added TQHA Sale Futurity final on July 30.
