Sandy Downs Presents QH Stakes Doubleheader on Saturday

The $118,804 Bitterroot Futurity tops the track's 11-race program.

Sandy Downs' 11-race program on Saturday features the 350-yard Bitterroot Futurity and 400-yard Bitterroot Derby. Post time for the first race is 5 p.m. (MDT).

A full field of 10 juveniles, topped by fastest qualifier Mahoney N Tacklebery, has been entered back in Saturday’s 350-yard, $118,804 Bitterroot Futurity (R) at Sandy Downs.

A homebred son of Favorite Cartel trained by Riley Moosman for owner Ben Peterson, Mahoney N Tacklebery is coming off of a neck victory as the 9-5 favorite in the eighth of nine trials on June 11. The gelding drew post 7 and will be ridden by Jesus Valenzuela.

Second-fastest qualifier Long Lost Buddy, a stakes-winning Favorite Cartel gelding racing for RTM Stables LLC, Ben McKinney and Richard Gardner from the barn of trainer Mark Hanson, drew post 10 and will be ridden by Uriel Dominguez. Long Lost Buddy has won his last two outs, including the May 22, 330-yard Rocky Mountain Spring Classic Futurity at Pocatello Downs.

Jim Walker’s Zoomin For Spuds, a two-time stakes winner last winter at Los Alamitos, drew post 10 for Saturday’s 400-yard, $38,307 Bitterroot Derby (R).

Trained by Monty Arrossa, Zoomin For Spuds has earned $80,962 from 13 outs, and his resume includes a neck victory in last year’s 350-yard, $126,000 Wild West Futurity in California. The homebred gelded son of Zoomin For Bux will be ridden by Jesus Canales.
