Special Post Time for Saturday's Sam Houston Futurity Trials

The track has moved its post time up to 3 p.m. to accommodate the 17 330-yard trials.


Recent winners Cartel Flash and Martime Express will make their next starts in Saturday's Sam Houston Futurity trials.

Recent winners Cartel Flash and Maritime Express are among the 170 2-year-olds entered in Saturday’s 330-yard Sam Houston Futurity (G2) trials at Sam Houston Race Park.

Post time for the first of 17 trials is set for 3 p.m. (CDT).

A bay daughter of champion First Moonflash racing for Rosa Aguado, Cartel Flash made her debut with a neck victory in a 300-yard Oklahoma Futurity (G3) trial at Remington Park on March 12. The filly, a $35,000 buy at last year’s Texas Quarter Horse Association Yearling Sale in San Antonio, drew will be ridden by Pedro Espinosa for trainer Daniel Luna from post 8 in the 13th heat.

Maritime Express crossed the wire second, a nose behind Reins, in a 300-yard Harrah’s Entertainment Futurity (G3) trial at Louisiana Downs on March 1, but the Brimmerton colt had his number put up when Reins was disqualified from first. An $8,700 purchase at last year’s Heritage Place Yearling Sale in Oklahoma City, Maritime Express is trained by Jesus Gonzalez Jr. for owner Adame Racing LLC.

Maritime Express drew post 5 and will be ridden by Jose Beltran in heat 11.

The 10 fastest qualifiers will meet in the April 23, $100,000-added Sam Houston Futurity final. Past winners of the Sam Houston Futurity include Azoom (2004) and champion Kiss My Hocks (’14).
