Ruidoso Select Sale Topper Headlines May 9-11 Training Races

Bellissima Chocolata will compete in the fourth race on Wednesday at Ruidoso Downs.

Ruidoso Downs will run 40 300-yard training races May 9-11. The races will begin at 8:30 a.m. (MDT) every day.

The next American Quarter Horse superstar could be uncovered in the 40 300-yard training races at Ruidoso Downs next Monday-Wednesday, May 9-11.

Admission to the training races is free and a special program will be available. First post time every day is 8:30 a.m. Overnights are available at on the Ruidoso Downs’ website.

Previous competitors in the training races include all-time leading money earner and All American Futurity winner Ochoa, All American Futurity winner Jm Miracle, Texas Classic Futurity winner Kates Dynasty and 10-time Grade 1 competitor Hez Our Secret. They all went on to earn championship honors.

Many of the juveniles with the best breeding in American Quarter Horse racing from the stables of the sport’s leading trainers will be participating and will be ridden by many of the sport's top jockeys. Bellissima Chocolata topped the Ruidoso Select Yearling Sale last September at $300,000 and will be competing in the fourth race on Wednesday. She is a daughter of Valiant Hero and two-time champion Heartswideopen. Ricky Ramirez will ride Bellissima Chocolata for trainer Blane Wood.

The majority of the horses in the training races will be preparing for the $1-million Ruidoso Futurity (G1), $1-million Rainbow Futurity, and $3-million All American Futurity (G1). The All American Futurity offers the largest purse of any 2-year-old race in the world and any Quarter Horse race.

The training races are designed to prepare juveniles for the Ruidoso Futurity trials, which will be run May 27-28..
