A total of 34 3-year-olds, topped by graded stakes winners Litlte Talks and Jess Good Reason, will compete for 10 starting spots in Sunday's 400-yard Southern Califonria Derby (G2) trials at Los Alamitos.

Little Talks is a homebred daughter of Favorite Cartel trained by Mike Casselman for Dr. Steve Burns of Menifee, California. The winner of last year's 400-yard Golden State Million Futurity (G1), the filly has earned $81,027 from five outs this season, and her three wins include the September 30, 400-yard PCQHRA Breeders' Derby (G3).

Little Talks drew post 3 and will be ridden by Cesar DeAlba in the second of four trials.

Jess Good Reason will be ridden by Oscar Peinado for trainer Paul Jones from post 6 in the fourth heat. Owned by John and Cina Sperry, the homebred Good Reason SA filly has won two Grade 3 stakes this year, including the October 29, 400-yard Adequan Derby Challenge Championship (G3).

Ima Fearless Hero, last year's champion 2-year-old gelding, drew the rail post in the first trial. A homebred son of Valiant Hero, he will be ridden by Cruz Mendez for owner S-Quarter K LLC of Kennewick, Washington, and trainer Jose Flores.

The 10 fastest qualifiers from Sunday's trials will meet in the $168,500 Southern California Derby final on December 18, closing night of Los Alamitos' 2016 season.
