Nevill Stakes Opens Lone Star Meet

A field of nine Texas-breds has been entered in Friday's Nevill Stakes at Lone Star Park.

A field of nine Texas-bred sprinters has been entered in Friday’s 350-yard, $20,000 Nevill Stakes, the feature race on Lone Star Park’s nine-race opening-night program.

Kw Cowboy, a homebred 4-year-old Mighty Corona gelding trained by Brian Stroud for owner K & W Land and Cattle Co., won three of his four starts at Retama Park and is the 9-5 morning-line favorite. The gelding drew post 7 and will be ridden by Eddie Sanchez.

Stroud will also send out Snipes And Bites, a 5-year-old son of Vrrroom, for owner Pete Scarmardo. The gelding will be stretching out in distance off of his second-place finish, a neck behind winner Shades Of Buck, in the 250-yard, $30,000 Gentilly Dash Stakes at Fair Grounds Racecourse in New Orleans.

Snipes And Bites drew post 8 and will be ridden by Francisco Calderon.
