Bp Hit The Bigtime Looks to Defend Title in James Isaac Hobbs Stakes

The Cartel Success gelding will make his official 5-year-old debut Sunday at Zia Park.


An overflow field of 12 sprinters, including two also-eligible entries, has been entered in Sunday's Grade 2 James Isaac Hobbs Stakes at Zia Park.

Bp Hit The Bigtime will make his season debut in Sunday’s 350-yard, $50,000 James Isaac Hobbs Stakes (G2) at Zia Park.

Trained by Joaquin Lopez for owner Top Roustabouts and Backhoe Service, Bp Hit The Bigtime is coming off of a 4-year-old campaign during which he won two graded stakes at Zia Park, including the James Isaac Hobbs Stakes. The 5-year-old Cartel Success gelding drew post 6 and will be ridden by Jesse Levario.

Other contenders include Apollitical Sign, a 4-year-old Apollitical Jess gelding racing for Danny Escalante and Manuel Soto III from the barn of trainer Martin Orona Sr. Apollitical Sign has earned $96,523 from 11 outs, and his two wins include a three-quarter length victory in last year’s 440-yard, $178,000 Hobbs America Derby (G3) at Zia Park.

Apollitical Sign drew post 5 and will be ridden by Ivan Carnero.
