Albuquerque's First Moonflash Maturity Draws Nine New Mexico-Breds
Recent allowance winner Play Misty Foreme heads the field.

Robert D. Smith’s Play Misty Foreme is one of nine New Mexico-bred Quarter Horses entered in Sunday’s feature, the 440-yard, $102,558 First Moonflash Maturity (R).
A 4-year-old gelding by Jesse James Jr trained by Shae Cox, Play Misty Foreme prepped with a half-length win as the 7-5 favorite in a 440-yard, $30,000 open-condition allowance race at Albuquerque Downs on July 22. Play Misty Foreme drew post 9 and will be ridden by Jose Luis Enriquez.
Other contenders include Major Bites, a 4-year-old Jesse James Jr gelding and the 5-2 morning-line choice. Trained by Cynthia Gonzalez for owner Israel Bordier, Major Bites is coming off of a third-place finish, a half of a length behind winner First Kool Moon, in the 400-yard, $50,000 Zia Handicap (RG2) at Ruidoso Downs on July 30.
Major Bites drew post 4 and will be ridden by Esgar Ramirez.
The First Moonflash Maturity honors First Moonflash, a New Mexico-bred 12-year-old son of First To Flash and the 2009 AQHA champion aged stallion. The complete lineup, in post position order including jockey assignments and morning-line odds:
