Louisiana Downs Opens Meet with Stakes Doubleheader

Track-record holder Scoopies Leaving You returns in Harrah's Dash.

Louisiana Downs will open its winter meet with a stakes doubleheader on Saturday.

Joel Galindo’s Scoopies Leaving You, a multiple stakes-winning son of Coronas Leaving You, will make his 6-year-old debut in Saturday’s 250-yard, $15,000 Harrah’s Dash Stakes, one of two stakes on Louisiana Downs’ opening-day program.

Trained by Kevin Broussard, Scoopies Leaving You holds the track record for the 250-yard distance -- :12.97 -- which he set when he won last year’s Harrah’s Dash. The stallion has won 15 of his 33 outs -- including eight of nine at Louisiana Downs -- and has banked $283,080.

Scoopies Leaving You drew post 4 and will be ridden by Donald Watson. His nine opponents include Barefoot Beach, a 4-year-old daughter of Ivory James trained by Yoani Abreu for owner Samuel Martinez. Barefoot Beach is coming off of a sophomore campaign during which she won stakes at Fair Grounds and Evangeline Downs and was a finalist in the 440-yard, $363,000 Texas Classic Derby (G1) at Lone Star Park.

Raul Ramirez Jr. will ride Barefoot Beach from post 5 in the Harrah’s Dash.
