AJS Anna Smoke, a stakes-winning homebred son of champion Separatist owned by the Robin MacPherson Living Trust, is one of 24 3-year-olds entered in Sunday's 400-yard Governor's Cup Derby (RG3) trials at Los Alamitos.

Trained by John Cooper, AJS Anna Smoke will be making his season debut in the second of three heats. The gelding has earned $235,790 from 10 starts, all in California, and his five wins include a half-length victory as the 7-5 favorite in last year's 350-yard, $388,000 Governor's Cup Futurity (RG2).

AJS Anna Smoke drew post 6 and will be ridden by Cesar DeAlba.

Trainer Jaime Gomez will send out Katella Deli, a bay son of Foose owned by Dutch Masters III and Paul Blanchard, in the first trial. Katella Deli has banked $284,834 from 11 starts, and the gelding's resume includes a third-place finish, a neck behind winner Worth Doing, in the 400-yard, $1.95-million Los Alamitos Two-Million Futurity (G1) on December 11.

Katella Deli drew post 4 and will be ridden by Carlos Huerta.

The 10 fastest qualifiers will meet in the Governor's Cup Derby final on July 29.
