The Louisiana-bred gelding draws post 8 for Sunday's Grade 1, $1-million stakes.
June 6, 2017
High Rate Of Motion, a sorrel son of High Rate Of Return and the fastest qualifier, is one of 10 2-year-olds entered back in Sunday's 350-yard, $1-million Ruidoso Futurity (G1) at Ruidoso Downs.
The Ruidoso Futurity is the first leg of the All American Triple Crown and is the 10th race on Ruidoso Downs' 10-race program. Estimated post time is set for 4:56 p.m. (MDT).
High Rate Of Motion is trained by Mike Joiner for the High Rate Partners 2017. A $33,000 buy at last year's Heritage Place Yearling Sale, the gelding is coming off of a wire-to-wire, two-length victory in the seventh of 13 trials on May 26, the first day of Ruidoso Futurity trials.
High Rate Of Motion has earned $13,240 from three outs, and his resume includes a third-place finish in the 300-yard, $50,000 West Texas Juvenile Invitational Stakes at Sunland Park on April 16. The gelding drew post 8 and will be ridden by Cody Jensen.
Eagle Jazz, the overall fastest qualifier, races for Juan A. Medina for trainer Judd Kearl. A homebred gelding by One Dashing Eagle, Eagle Jazz has won three of four starts, including the last of 13 Ruidoso Futurity trials on May 27, and he has earned $178,049, most of which came from his second-place finish in the 330-yard, $1-million Remington Park Futurity (RG2) for Oklahoma-bred 2-year-olds on April 22.
Eagle Jazz drew post 3 and will be ridden by Rodrigo Vallejo.
Other contenders include Terry and Irene Stennett's U R My Queen, a daughter of Walk Thru Fire trained by Trey Wood. A $57,000 purchase at last year's Ruidoso Select Yearling Sale, U R My Queen made her debut with a neck victory in the 11th heat on May 27.
U R My Queen is a full sister to Fires Blazin, the runner-up in 2012 Ed Burke Million Futurity (G1) at Los Alamitos. The filly drew post 7 and will be ridden by Ricky Ramirez.
