Fire Thorn to Get Class Test in SunRay’s Marathon Stakes
The 6-year-old gelding will be vying for his first stakes victory on Friday.

Efren Guzman’s Fire Thorn is one of eight Quarter Horses and Thoroughbreds entered in Friday’s 870-yard, $30,000 Marathon Stakes at SunRay Park.
A 6-year-old Shazoom gelding trained by Cynthia Gonzalez, Fire Thorn is coming off of a 4 3/4-length victory in an 870-yard, $25,000 open-condition allowance race on April 21. Fire Thorn has won four of 32 starts, including three of 18 at this distance, and has earned $96,341.
Other contenders include Nmoceanfrontproperty, a gray 5-year-old son of Ocean Runaway trained by Jaime Aldavaz Sr. for owner Currie J. Maben of Clovis, New Mexico. The gelding is returning to his most recent winning distance, as he scored a wire-to-wire, 1 1/4-length victory in an 870-yard non-winners-of-three allowance at Zia Park on October 22.
