Arizona Icon Returns in AQRA Turf Paradise Derby Trials

The homebred gelding will make his first start in more than eight months on Sunday.

Sunday's 400-yard AQRA Turf Paradise Derby trials have drawn 25 sophomores, topped by multiple stakes winner Arizona Icon.

Las Vegas Ranch’s Arizona Icon, a homebred son of Texas Icon trained by Matt Fales, is one of 25 3-year-olds entered in Sunday’s 400-yard AQRA Turf Paradise Open Derby trials.

Arizona Icon will be making his first start since March 25, when the bay gelding ran second in a derby trial at Turf Paradise. Arizona Icon has won four of nine starts, including two futurities last season, and he has earned $35,598, of which $29,548 has been banked from seven outs at Turf Paradise.

J. Martin Bourdieu will ride Arizona Icon from post 8 in the second of three trials.

The 10 fastest qualifiers will meet in the December 10, $15,000-added AQRA Turf Paradise Derby final.
