Katella Deli, Evil Genius, and Renewed are among the 34 3-year-olds entered in Friday's 400-yard Southern California Derby (G2) trials at Los Alamitos.

Katella Deli is a bay son of champion Foose trained by Jaime Gomez for owners Paul Blanchard of Albuquerque and Dutch Masters III. The gelding is coming off of a second-place finish, a half of a length behind winner Chazaq, in the 400-yard, $956,000 Los Alamitos Super Derby (G1) on November 12.

Jose Nicasio will ride Katella Deli from the rail post in the second of five trials.

Evil Genius drew post 4 and will be ridden by Oscar Peinado in the second heat. A Favorite Cartel gelding owned by Abigail K. Kawananakoa and trainer Paul Jones, Evil Genius has earned $91,310 from seven outs this season, and his two wins include a neck victory at odds of 14-1 in the 400-yard, $203,000 Governor's Cup Derby (RG3) on July 29.

Renewed will race from post 2 in the fourth trial. Trained by Roberto Dominguez for owner Kolleen Ledgerwood, Renewed sports a sophomore resume that includes a second-place finish, three-quarters of a length behind winner Kiddy Up Cowgirl, in the 400-yard, $184,000 PCQHRA Breeders' Derby (G3) in October. The Walk Thru Fire colt will be ridden by Eduardo Nicasio on Friday.

The 10 fastest qualifiers from Friday's trials will meet in the December 15, $175,300 Southern California Derby final.
