Champion Imperial Eagle Headlines West Texas Maturity Trials

The gelding will make his 4-year-old debut on Friday at Sunland Park.

Imperial Eagle, the winner of the 2016 All American Futurity, will make his season debut in Friday's West Texas Maturity trials at Sunland Park.

Imperial Eagle, a gray son of One Famous Eagle racing for Christina D. Robinson, is one of 25 aged sprinters entered in Friday’s 400-yard West Texas Maturity (G3) trials at Sunland Park.

A 4-year-old gelding trained by Tony Sedillo, Imperial Eagle is coming off of a sophomore campaign during which he earned $92,100 from seven outs, and his three wins included a neck victory as the even-money favorite in the 400-yard, $100,000 Mr Jess Perry Stakes at Ruidoso Downs in June.

Imperial Eagle drew post 7 and will be ridden by Esgar Ramirez in the first of three trials.

Apollitical OK, a 5-year-old Apollitical Jess gelding trained by Joel Valeriano for owners Oscar Dominguez and Joel Martinez, drew post 5 and will be ridden by Ramirez in the second heat. Apollitical OK scored a half-length win in last year’s 400-yard, $50,000 Mr Jet Moore Handicap (G2) at Ruidoso.

The 10 fastest qualifiers will meet in the March 10, $65,000-added West Texas Maturity final.
