Fastest qualifier Regard The Rose and multiple stakes winner Daddys Blushing are among the dozen New Mexico-bred 3-year-olds entered back in Sunday’s 400-yard, $x206,815 Shue Fly Stakes (RG2) at Sunland Park.

A daughter of Chicks Regard trained by Juan Chavez Ortega for owner Mason A. King, Regard The Rose has earned $61,130 from six starts, and her five wins include a three-quarter length victory in the 400-yard, $30,000 Arapahoe Park Futurity in Colorado on August 13. The filly is coming off of a clear 2 3/4-length win in the third of four Shue Fly trials on December 22.

Regard The Rose, a $6,000 purchase at the 2016 Heritage Place Yearling Sale, drew post 9 and will be ridden by Manuel Gutierrez.

Daddys Blushing races for Gary W. Hartstack of Houston, Texas, who acquired the son of Big Daddy Cartel for $14,000 at the 2016 Ruidoso Select Yearling Sale. The bay gelding has banked $189,321 from six outs, and his five wins include victories in last year’s 330-yard, $40,000 Sam Houston Juvenile Invitational Stakes at Sam Houston Race Park, and 350-yard, $393,000 Mountain Top Futurity (RG3) for New Mexico-bred 2-year-olds at Ruidoso Downs.

Daddys Blushing drew post 3 and will be ridden by Francisco Calderon for trainer Jackie Riddle.

Other contenders include SMS Racing LLC’s Jesse Klee, a sorrel son of Jesse James Jr trained by Justin Joiner. A $26,000 yearling buy at the 2016 New Mexico-Bred Sale, Jesse Klee has earned $44,731 from seven starts, and the gelding was a finalist in last year’s 400-yard, $300,000 New Mexico Cup Futurity (RG2) at Zia Park and 400-yard, $371,000 Zia Futurity (RG1) at Ruidoso Downs.
