State-Bred Juveniles in Spotlight at Indiana Grand

The track will host the Jaguar Rocket Stakes and Gordon Mobley Futurity on Saturday.

Daddys Moe, a bay son of champion Carters Cartel owned by Rose Bode and the fastest qualifier, is one of 10 Indiana-bred 2-year-olds entered in Saturday's 300-yard $129,600 Jaguar Rocket Stakes (R) at Indiana Grand.

One of two finalists from the barn of trainer Randy Smith, Indiana Grand's all-time leading Quarter Horse trainer, Daddys Moe broke his maiden with a neck victory in the second of three trials on June 2. The homebred gelding drew post 10 and will be ridden by Jose A. Beltran.

Smith will also send out Coronados Quiksilver, an undefeated homebred gray daughter of Coronado Cartel owned by Gordon M. Timm. The third-fastest qualifier, Coronados Quiksilver drew post 9 and will be ridden by James Flores.

Also on Saturday, fastest qualifier Nachito Coronel is the 4-5 morning-line favorite for the 300-yard, $181,900 Gordon Mobley Futurity (R) for Indiana-sired juveniles.

Trained by Ricardo Martinez for owner Patricia del Rocio Lopez, Nachito Coronel is coming off of a 1 3/4-length victory in the last of four trials on June 2. The homebred Habits Secret gelding has won both of his starts, both at Indiana Grand.

Nachito Coronel drew post 8 and will be ridden by Sergio R. Ramirez.

The second of six all Quarter Horse racing nights is slated for Saturday, July 7. The evening will feature the $40,000 Bradford Stakes, the $50,000 Indiana Grand QHRAI Derby and trials for the Blue River Derby and the Heartland Futurity.

The Quarter Horse Racing Association of Indiana (QHRAI) will provide $2 race wagers to the first 100 racing fans along with T-shirts. Kevin Cox, nationally known racing analyst and handicapper also known as the “Bronx Cowboy,” will be on hand to provide additional support for the evening, which begins at 6:05 p.m. (EDT).
