Twenty Aged Sprinters Entered in Vessels Maturity Trials

The 10 fastest qualifiers will meet in the July 8, $170,500 final.

Twenty aged runners, headed by Grade 1 winner BH Lisas Boy and champion Zoomin For Spuds, have been entered in Sunday's 400-yard Vessels Maturity (G1) trials at Los Alamitos.

BH Lisas Boy and Zoomin For Spuds finished first and second, respectively, in the 400-yard, $157,000 Brad McKinzie Los Alamitos Winter Championship (G1) on February 11. A homebred 6-year-old Mighty Invictus gelding owned and trained by Bill Hoburg of Kennewick, Washington, BH Lisas Boy has earned $72,983 from three outs this season.

BH Lisas Boy the rail post and will be ridden by Cesar DeAlba in the third trial. The gelding's six opponents in the third heat include Zoomin For Spuds, a homebred 5-year-old Zoomin For Bux gelding trained by Monty Arrossa for owner Jim Walker. The sport's champion 3-year-old gelding in 2016, Zoomin For Spuds has banked $46,958 from four starts this year, and his two wins include a one-length victory in the 400-yard, $28,000 Moonist Handicap at Los Alamitos on March 25.

Zoomin For Spuds drew post 6 and will be ridden by Jesus Ayala.

The 10 fastest qualifiers will meet in the $170,500 Vessels Maturity final on July 8. The winner will earn a berth in the Grade 1, 440-yard Champion of Champions in December.
