Colorado-Bred Futurity, Derby Trials Dominate Arapahoe Card

Trials for the Cherry Creek Futurity, Lucille Rowe Derby are on tap for Friday.

Arapahoe Park's seven-race Friday card is dominated by trials for the Cherry Creek Futurity and Lucille Rowe Derby.

Margarito Montalvo’s One Two, a stakes-placed daughter of One Sweet Jess, is one of 26 Colorado-bred 2-year-olds entered in Friday’s 330-yard Cherry Creek Futurity (R) trials at Arapahoe Park.

One Two is coming off of a second-place finish, one length behind winner Invite A Favor, in the 330-yard, $90,000 Rocky Mountain Futurity at Arapahoe Park on June 16. The filly drew post 5 and will be ridden by Cerapio Figueroa for trainer Jose Cruz Villafranco in the first of four trials.

The 10 fastest qualifiers will meet in the July 14, $75,000-est. Cherry Creek Futurity final.

Also on Friday, 16 state-bred sophomores have been entered in two 350-yard Lucille Rowe Derby (R) trials.
Hugo Barron-Sierra’s Shinning Bianca, a stakes-placed One Handsome Man filly trained by Jose Manuel Barron, drew post 6 and will be ridden by Malouly Rodriguez in the first heat. The runner-up in last year’s Cherry Creek Futurity, Shinning Bianca has earned $6,446 from three outs this year, and her season resume includes a fourth-place run, 1 3/4 lengths behind winner Captain Force, in the 350-yard, $55,000 Rocky Mountain Derby on June 16.

The 10 fastest qualifiers will meet in the $55,000-est. Lucille Rowe Derby final on July 14.
