Rescheduled Four Corners Futurity Set for Sunday

The 350-yard, $96,589 stakes headlines Sunday's Albuquerque Downs card.

Press release

The rescheduled Four Corners Futurity will be contested at Albuquerque Downs on Sunday.

Sunday’s 10-race program at Albuquerque Downs will be headed by the 350-yard, $96,589 Four Corners Futurity for 2-year-old Quarter Horses.

The Four Corners Futurity was originally scheduled to be run on June 17, closing day of the 33-day SunRay Park spring meet. However, unsafe track conditions caused by heavy rains forced SunRay Park management to cancel the last seven races on the June 17 card, including the Four Corners Futurity.

Wallace Johnson’s Shes Got Fire, a bay daughter of Corona Cartel and the fastest qualifier, drew post 9 and will be ridden by Felipe Garcia-Luna for trainer Justin Joiner. The filly made her debut with a wire-to-wire, 1 1/4-length victory in the last of four trials at SunRay Park on June 2.

Other contenders include Woodys Copy Cat, a New Mexico-bred daughter of Woodbridge trained by Cynthia Gonzalez for owner Enrique Barrera. A maiden, Woodys Copy Cat has earned $72,844 from three starts, and her resume includes a second-place finish, a neck behind winner Zee James, in the 300-yard, $396,000 New Mexican Spring Futurity (RG2) for New Mexico-breds at Sunland Park on April 7.

Woodys Copy Cat drew the rail post and will be ridden by Alonso Rivera.

Leap Year Teller (Juan Carlos Rivas), 15-1
