Moonie Blues and Matilda Czech are among the 14 3-year-old fillies entered in Saturday's La Primera del Ano Derby (G3) trials at Los Alamitos.

The 10 fastest qualifiers from Saturday's two 400-yard heats will meet in the $183,800 final on March 30.

Moonie Blues and Matilda Czech will be facing off in the second trial. A homebred daughter of Freighttrain B trained by Jaime Gomez for owner Lisa Anderson, Moonie Blues is coming off of a third-place finish, a half of a length behind winner Jess My Kiss, in the February 10, $215,000 Los Alamitos Winter Derby (G1). The filly was coming off of a 2-year-old campaign during which she banked $355,369 from eight starts and ran second in the 400-yard, $1.745-million Los Alamitos Two-Million Futurity (G1) on December 17.

Moonie Blues drew post 7 and will be ridden by Jose Nicasio.

Matilda Czech will be ridden by Cruz Mendez from post 5. Trained by Lorenzo Campzano for Enrique Gonzalez' EG High Desert Farms, the homebred Fast Prize Cartel filly ran fourth, a nose behind Moonie Blues, in the Los Alamitos Winter Derby. All told, she has won six of 11 starts, all at Los Alamitos, and has earned $325,132, and her resume includes a second-place finish in last year's Golden State Million Futurity (G1) and a half-length score in the 350-yard, $25,000 California Breeders' Freshman Fillies Stakes (R).
