May 10, 2018
Parsons Ranch's A Political Lady, a homebred daughter of Apollitical Jess trained by Chris O'Dell, is the even-money morning-line favorite in Saturday's 350-yard, $30,000 La Pacifica Handicap for 3-year-old fillies at Los Alamitos.
A Political Lady has won her last four starts, including the 400-yard, $184,000 La Primera del Ano Derby (G3) on March 30. The filly has earned $221,453 from 12 outs, all at Los Alamitos, and her resume includes a third-place finish in last year's 400-yard, $939,000 Golden State Million Futurity (G1).
A Political Lady drew post 8 and will be ridden by Eduardo Nicasio. Her seven opponents include Hard Headed Chick, a homebred Hard Hittting filly trained by Lin Melton for owner John Firth and the runner-up to A Political Lady in the La Primera. Hard Headed Chick has won three of 12 races and has banked $76,446, and she was a finalist in last year's PCQHRA Breeders' Futurity (G2).
