Forty-Eight New Mexico-Bred Sophomores Entered in Shue Fly Trials
The 10 fastest qualifiers will meet in the January 26 final at Sunland Park

Woodys Copy Cat and HS Paul Walker are among the 48 New Mexico-bred 3-year-olds entered in Friday’s 400-yard Shue Fly Stakes (RG2) trials at Sunland Park.
A brown daughter of Woodbridge trained by Cynthia Gonzalez for owner Enrique Barrera, Woodys Copy Cat will be making her first start since November 4, when the filly scored a neck victory in the 400-yard, $315,000 New Mexico Cup Futurity (RG2) at Zia Park. Woodys Copy Cat has earned $240,728 from seven races, and her record includes a second-place finish, a neck behind winner Zee James, in the 300-yard, $396,000 New Mexican Spring Futurity (RG2) at Sunland Park.
Woodys Copy Cat drew post 8 and will be ridden by Manuel Gutierrez in the last of five trials.
HS Paul Walker is coming off of a second-place finish to Woodys Copy Cat in the New Mexico Cup Futurity. Trained by Alvaro Hinojos for owner Fernando Solis Grajeda, the gray Osbaldo gelding has earned $93,960 from nine starts.
HS Paul Walker drew post 8 and will be ridden by Alonso Rivera in the second heat.
The 10 fastest qualifiers will meet in the January 26, $200,000-est. Shue Fly Stakes final.
