Show History
History of the AQHA CMS World
The AQHA Cowboy Mounted Shooting World Championships were first held in 2012 in conjunction with the AQHA Versatility Ranch Horse World Championships during the Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo in March.
Since its inception, the AQHA CMS World has been a joint effort between the American Quarter Horse Association and its alliance partner the Cowboy Mounted Shooting Association. CMSA handles the qualifying and entry processing, as well as the management of the event, whereas AQHA facilitates the invitations, sponsorships and awards presented to the world championship exhibitors. Honors won at the AQHA CMS World are also recorded on the horses' official records.
In 2018, AQHA moved the AQHA Versatility Ranch Horse World Championships from Houston to Guthrie, Oklahoma, letting the AQHA CMS World stand in the limelight. CMSA also hosted a CMSA event together with the AQHA CMS World, allowing AQHA and CMSA members ample opportunities to return home with awards and prizes.
Then in October 2019, the AQHA CMS World move to Amarillo, where it is now hosted in conjunction with the CMSA World Show at the Amarillo National Center.
