Steve and Kathy Headley are donating $150,000 and Gary and Linda Gordon are also donating $150,000, while Terry and Tammy Bradshaw have donated $153,000.

The American Quarter Horse Association is excited to extend the Halter Bonanza at the Lucas Oil AQHA World Championship Show, thanks to the generosity of a few special sponsors.

“Our sponsors decided to continue their sponsorships and donate to the amateur and open halter classes at the Lucas Oil World over the next three years,” said Pete Kyle, AQHA chief show officer. “Steve and Kathy Headley are donating $150,000 and Gary and Linda Gordon are also donating $150,000, while Terry and Tammy Bradshaw have donated $153,000, totaling $453,000 over the next three years!”

At the 2017 Lucas Oil World, $105,000 in additional added money was added to the halter class purses. A total of $55,000 was added to the amateur halter division, thanks to 10-year cumulative breeders Steve and Kathy Headley of Bloomington, Indiana, who donated $25,000; and 30-year cumulative breeders Terry and Tammy Bradshaw, who donated $30,000.

The $50,000 added to the open halter division was donated by 30-year cumulative breeders Gary and Linda Gordon of Fossil Gate Farms, Roanoke, Texas.

As part of the 2017 Halter Bonanza, $2,500 was awarded to the high-point Adequan® Level 2 open halter exhibitor, as well as the high-point halter amateur from the AQHA Level 2 Championships, presented by Adequan® (polysulfated glycosaminoglycan). The Adequan® Level 2 amateur high-point halter exhibitor title was awarded to Mariah Gipson of Oxford, Ohio. The Adequan® Level 2 open high-point halter exhibitor title was awarded to Chris Riedle of Caldwell, Idaho.

Halter Nomination Pilot Program
In addition to the halter added money, don’t forget that halter exhibitors have a third option for qualifying their horses to compete in the Level 3 halter classes at the 2018 Adequan® Select World Championship Show and 2018 Lucas Oil World.

The three qualifying options are:

  1. Qualify by earning the required number of points,
  2. Compete at a designated number of shows during the respective qualifying period (10 for Select and amateur or 20 for open) or
  3. Participate in the new nomination pilot program for halter horses.

As one qualifying alternative, the halter nomination pilot program allows owners to nominate their horses to specific 2018 AQHA world shows. Read more about the halter nomination pilot program. The first nomination payment is due December 31, 2017, with no penalty.
