Halter Nomination Pilot Program
Halter: Amateur and Open halter competitors (not including performance halter) can earn an invitation to the 2017 world show by competing at a designated number of shows during the respective qualifying period.
a. Amateur (Level 3 and Level 2): show at ten shows in a halter class. Shows will be counted by show numbers on a one-horse/one-exhibitor basis.
b. Open (Level 3 and Level 2): show at 20 shows in a halter class. Shows will be counted by show numbers.
Performance Halter: In addition to earning at least the minimum number of points set to qualify in the open performance halter class, any horse to be shown in the open performance halter at the 2017 World Show must have earned an open performance ROM during the qualifying year, or if earned prior to the qualifying period, must have earned at least ten riding points in the open division during the qualifying period.
In addition to earning at least the minimum number of points set to qualify in the performance halter class in amateur, any horse to be shown in the amateur performance halter at the 2017 World Show must have earned a performance ROM in open, amateur or youth division during the qualifying period, or if the ROM is earned prior to the qualifying period, must have earned at least ten riding points in the open, amateur or youth divisions combined during the qualifying period. Showmanship points DO NOT count in either the ROM or the ten riding points, nor do Level 1 points or points earned at Introductory shows; however, green points in the open division will count towards the riding points in open and/or amateur.
State Invites: For the 2017 World Show in the Amateur division, the amateur/horse combination will be required to reach at least half the points set as the minimum to qualify in order to be invited as an affiliate/state invitee in each particular class (for example: if the minimum number of points set to qualify for Amateur Aged Mares is 9.5, the invitee must have reached at least 4.5 points in order to be invited - note that if a class requires points that include .5 point, AQHA will round down and require half of THAT number). This program is operated by AQHA, not the affiliate, and exhibitors are invited based on the state in which they reside, not where they show. Once the qualifiers are run (around August 20th), AQHA will run the list of those that were top in their class but didn't qualify. Those invitations will be sent out around August 25. If the first place horse/exhibitor is tied, all of those ties for first will be invited. AQHA will not go below the first place points even if the first place duo will not be attending.
Events which cross over the end qualifying date: Keep in mind AQHA-approved events which end prior to or on July 31, 2017 will count towards the 2017 Lucas Oil AQHA World Show. If an event crosses over the end qualifying date and has a show end date of August 1, 2017 (or later) - that show's points will count towards the 2018 Lucas Oil AQHA World Show. For example: A show's dates are recorded with AQHA as July 30 - 31, 2017, the points will count towards the 2017 show; however, if the dates are recorded as July 31 - August 1, 2017 (or later) the points will count towards the 2018 show.
