Standing Committees
Standing Committees
These committees meet each year at the AQHA Convention and may also hold meetings throughout the year to discuss important industry topics.
Committees review and evaluate rule-change proposals submitted by members and make recommendations to the membership during the Membership Business Meeting at the Convention.
Each committee is composed of elected directors (who are required to serve on a committee), other Board members and AQHA members. Committee appointments are made by the Executive Committee, and terms traditionally are for three years. When a term ends, members may be reappointed to the same committee, appointed to a different committee or not appointed. The Executive Committee strives to maintain a balanced representation across industry segments.
Members may request an appointment to a specific committee; however, because committee sizes are limited to ensure effectiveness, not all requests can be accommodated. If someone is not appointed, members are still encouraged to participate during the Convention. Most meetings are open to non-committee members, and chairs will allow registered attendees to speak on a relevant topic.
If you’re serving on a committee, active participation is essential. Missing two meetings could result in removal, and elected directors risk losing their director status.
Anyone interested in serving on a committee in the future is encouraged to attend the Convention in person. This provides an opportunity to observe meetings, understand the governance process, and see how decisions are made. When you’re ready to take the next step, submit a committee application and become an active part of shaping the future of the American Quarter Horse industry.
