John T. Sargent's Patty Wagon Train began her 5-year-old campaign with a half-length win in Saturday's $30,000 Billy Montgomery Stakes (R) for state-bred distaffers at Louisiana Downs.
Racing on a muddy and sealed track against a reported 15-mph head wind, Patty Wagon Train covered 330 yards in :16.813. Ubaldo Luna rode the brown BP Wagon Train mare for trainer Orlando Orozco.
Patty Wagon Train posted a 101 speed index while rebounding off of her 10th-place finish in the 440-yard, $100,000 Louisiana Champions Night Classic Stakes (RG2) at Evangeline Downs on December 21. She was bred by Steven P. Miller, and she is out of Pattymegone, a winning daughter of the Chicks Beduino stallion Game Patriot.
Raced exclusively in Louisiana, Patty Wagon Train has won eight of her 25 starts, and the $18,000 winner's share of the purse from her third career stakes score pushed her bankroll to $186,310.
