Making his career debut on Friday at Sam Houston Race Park, Simmons Racing's Aguila Rapida set the fastest qualifying time to the May 10 John Deere Sam Houston Juvenile Challenge (G3).

Aguila Rapida won the first of six 350-yard trials by three-quarters of a length in :17.797. Luis Vivanco rode the son of champion Tempting Dash for trainer Toby Keeton.

Aguila Rapida was bred in Texas by Donnie Griffin and Simmons Racing. The sorrel gelding is out of Eyema Eagle, a winning homebred daughter of '08 champion sophomore colt One Famous Eagle. His second dam, the winning Oak Tree Special mare Eyema Special Candy, ran second in the 2011 Valley Junction Futurity (G3) at Prairie Meadows.

Pirata Jess ran second to Aguila Rapida in the first heat. Rodrigo Vallejo rode the Apollitical Jess colt for owner Tabasco Racing and trainer Raul Galvan.

AQHA found a discrepancy in the validity of the times reported by the racetrack, and reached out to the racetrack which cooperated with an investigation. It was confirmed that there was a malfunction in the timing system. Regulations require that in the event that this happens, the average of three hand times are used to determine the official time of the races. Collaboration with Sam Houston and the Board of Stewards at the Texas Racing Commission determined an updated list of qualifiers. The complete list of horses includes Aguila Rapida, Peppa, Pirata Jess, Hogans Hero, Run Nellie Run, DNA, TJR Flyingwithstyle, Poochies Candy, Blue Eyed Jane and Kiss My Legs Bye.

The impacted parties were notified.
