Delta Downs hosted 12 qualifying trials for the season’s richest race on Friday. The $597,622 Lee Berwick Futurity (RG1) will take place on closing night of the season, Saturday, July 12, and the fastest qualifier for the event was Jaime Cardenas’ RF Fast Dash N Blood ($2.10) under jockey Jorge Javier Garcia.
RF Fast Dash N Blood scorched the track for 350 yards in the third trial of the evening, posting a winning time of :17.463. That time equaled a speed index of 99. Each race on the program was contested over a fast racetrack.
RF Fast Dash N Blood, who is trained by Miguel Castillo, will attempt to win his second rich futurity of the season in the Lee Berwick. On May 24 he took the $268,895 Louisiana Bred Laddie Futurity (RG2) at Delta Downs after winning his trial for the race three weeks earlier. Overall, he has three wins from five career starts.
Each trial on Friday carried a purse of $10,000 and the winners took home $6,000 apiece. With that paycheck, RF Fast Dash N Blood has now banked $171,794. He can earn another $298,811 if he takes the Lee Berwick final in three weeks.
Bred in Louisiana by Rogers Farm/Tim/Jennie Rogers, RF Fast Dash N Blood is a bay gelding by Apollitical Blood out of the Heza Fast Dash mare Fast Dash N Deb. A seven-time winner and earner of nearly $200,000 on the track, Fast Dash N Deb finished third in the 2008 Lee Berwick Futurity behind Jet Black Patriot.
Following are the 10 qualifiers for this year’s Lee Berwick Futurity from the fastest time down: RF Fast Dash N Blood (:17.463), Luziana Man (:17.562), Valiant Heart Z (:17.758), Fantsy Man Train (:17.793), San Lorenzo Bossman (:17.802), Ivory Heart Z (:17.848), Zactex Blood (:17.849), San Lorenzo Cocoy (:17.850), LM Ms Apollitical (:17.884) and One Sweet Texan (:17.885).
