One Sweet Sugar, a homebred daughter of the Mr Jess Perry stallion One Sweet Jess racing for Rogelio Marquez Jr., is the fastest qualifier to the December 21, $233,287 Louisiana QHBA Breeders' Derby (RG3) for state-bred 3-year-olds.

At Evangeline Downs on Saturday, One Sweet Sugar won the second of two 400-yard trials by a neck in :20.065. Leonardo Rodriguez rode the filly for trainer Jeremy Derozin.

One Sweet Sugar was making his first start since September 7, when the sorrel filly scored a one-length victory on a muddy and sealed track in the 350-yard, $49,100 Esplanade Stakes at Fair Grounds Racecourse in New Orleans. One Sweet Sugar is out of Sugarshaker B, a winning Heza Fast Dash mare.

One Sweet Sugar has won six of her 15 races -- including last year's Lee Berwick (RG1) and Louisiana Breeders' Lassie (RG2) futurities at Delta Downs -- and she has banked $626,870.
