Dunn Ranch’s Pattys Saint, a multiple Grade 1-winning daughter of the Feature Mr Jess stallion Jess Got Easier, is the early favorite for Saturday's 400-yard, $125,000 Mildred Vessels Memorial Handicap (G1) at Los Alamitos Racecourse.
Pattys Saint has won three stakes at Los Alamitos this season, including the 400-yard, $100,000 Charger Bar Handicap (G1) in January, and the 400-yard, $100,000 Abigail Kawananakoa Stakes in June. Monty Arrossa trains the 6-year-old Idaho-bred mare.
Pattys Saint drew post 5 and will be ridden by Eduardo Nicasio. The mare's nine opponents include Gentry Farms' Fearless Moon, a homebred 4-year-old daughter of champion First Moonflash and the sport's 2023 champion sophomore filly. Fearless Moon ran second to Pattys Saint in the Charger Bar, and she will be stretching out in distance off of her two-length victory in a 350-yard, $18,000 open-condition allowance dash at Los Alamitos on July 14.
Fearless Moon drew post 2 and will be ridden by Oscar Peinado for trainer Juan Aleman.
Jes An Angel ships in from New Mexico, where she scored a wire-to-wire, one-length win in a 400-yard, $42,240 allowance race on August 3. Trained by Marc Jungers for owners Brad Williams and Don Forbes, the 4-year-old Jess Zoomin mare has earned $506,198 from 20 starts and has won two stakes, including the 2022 Southwest Juvenile Championship (G2) at Zia Park.
Jes An Angel drew the rail post and will be ridden by Noe Garcia Jr.
