Prairie Meadows Friday Preview
Four Quarter Horse stakes -- topped by the Grade 3 Valley Junction Futurity for 2-year-olds -- will dominate Friday's 11-race card at Prairie Meadows.
Ten 2-year-olds are entered back in Friday's 350-yard, $203,820 Valley Junction Futurity. Thomas J. Scheckel's Sheza Famous Candy, the fastest qualifier from trials run on September 10, drew post 7 and will be ridden by Edwin Escobedo for trainer Jason Olmstead. A California-bred daughter of champion One Famous Eagle and a $72,000 purchase at last year's Heritage Place Yearling Sale, the brown filly has earned $105,120 from six races, and her four wins include a three-quarter length victory in the 350-yard, $67,000 John Deere Prairie Meadows Juvenile Challenge (G3) on August 19.
Also on Friday, stakes winners A Legacy Of Tales and Curls Patti Wagon are among the 10 sophomores entered back in the 400-yard, $113,460 Altoona Derby.
Trained by Stacy Charette-Hill for owner Donald J. Friesen, A Legacy Of Tales brings in a four-race win streak that includes a three-quarter length victory in the 400-yard, $44,000 Adequan Prairie Meadows Derby Challenge on August 18. The homebred Wagon Tales gelding drew post 10 and will be ridden by Cristian Esqueda.
Curls Patti Wagon races for Martin Stacy from the barn of trainer Stacy Charette-Hill. A homebred son of PYC Paint Your Wagon, the colt has raced five times at Prairie Meadows this season, and his record includes a head victory in the 350-yard, $103,000 Prairie Meadows Gold Derby on July 9.
Curls Patti Wagon drew post 3 and will be ridden by Jorge Torres.
Aged runners will be featured in Friday's 400-yard, $35,000 Two Rivers Stakes (G3).
The early favorite, Bradbury Racing's Nothin Like You, will be shortening in distance off of his second-place finish, three-quarters of a length behind winner One Fabulous Boy, in the August 20, 440-yard Bank of America Prairie Meadows Championship Challenge Stakes (G3). A homebred 4-year-old son of Favorite Cartel, the gelding scored a half-length victory in the 350-yard, $35,000 Keokuk Stakes (G3) on July 1, and he ran second, two lengths behind winner and 2021 world champion Danjer, in the June 3, 440-yard Debbie Schauf Remington Park Invitational Championship (G1).
Nothin Like You drew post 6 and will be ridden by Stormy Smith for trainer John Hammes.
Friday's 350-yard, $22,500 Valley Junction Juvenile Stakes has drawn a full field of 10 2-year-olds, led by early favorite Jess A Rednec Cowboy. A homebred son of Flying Cowboy 123 trained by Jason Olmstead for Brenda Reiswig, the sorrel gelding has banked $90,406 from six outs, and his two wins include a neck victory at odds of 12-1 in the May 27, $70,000 Easy Jet Stakes (RG3) for Oklahoma-breds at Remington Park.
Jess A Rednec Cowboy drew post 5 and will be ridden by Ramiro Garcia.
