2019 Youth Art Show

The American Quarter Horse Hall of Fame & Museum’s annual Youth Art Show is an opportunity for young artists to create artwork featuring the American Quarter Horse, compete to win cash prizes and have their artwork on display in the museum’s gallery.

This is an international competition open to young artists ages 11-18 years old. The artwork should capture the spirit of the American Quarter Horse and celebrate the unique love of horses.

All young artists must be registered by November 1, 2019 to be included in the jurying process - any and all digital entries received after November 1 will not be eligible for final consideration.  A notification will be sent out to the top 150 entries accepted to be part of the Youth Art Show, no later than November 8. All artwork must be at the Hall of Fame by Wednesday, November 27, 2019 by 5 p.m.

Please visit our official rules and guidelines page for more information.

Opening Reception and Cash Prizes

Everyone is welcome to attend the opening reception scheduled in December. During the evening event, winners will be announced.  Awards will be presented to artists placing first, second, third and honorable mention in two age categories, the 11-14 age group and the 15-18 age group. The cash prizes are as follows:

  • First place $500
  • Second place $250
  • Third place $100
  • (2) Honorable Mentions $25

One art piece will be chosen as "The Best in Show" of the exhibit. The artwork will be custom-framed and hang in the Museum for a year!

During the show, visitors to the museum will be able to vote for their favorite piece. The young artist, who’s artwork has the most votes, will be awarded the “People’s Choice Award” plus a $400 cash prize!

FREE Art Field Trip

If young artists are planning to participate in the Youth Art Show, teachers and students will also want to make an effort to join us on October 7 & 8, 2019 for an art-focused field trip. Three artists will be invited from our annual exhibit, America's Horse In Art, to lead discussions on art techniques and how to accurately depict an animal, such as the Quarter Horse, in art. There is no admission to attend! Registration for this field trip will open in August.

If you have any questions regarding the Youth Art Show, art field trip or have a problem submitting your entry, please contact the museum at or by phone at 806-376-5181.
